Time to build a house!

Hi everyone!  We are very excited to begin building our first home and could never dream of doing that without keeping our families in the loop! So here it is: our life in a nutshell for the next few months.  We will try to update this often and include pictures when we can!

If you haven't already, check out ryanhomes.com and take a virtual tour of the Palermo model.  It is absolutely gorgeous.

Okay so here we go....

March 2, 2014 - We had looked at a million house listings and visited/drove by a bunch of houses.  The ones we walked through didn't wow us and the few we drove by were just not where we wanted to be.  Ryan homes was actually our very first stop the weekend before.  The neighborhood was lovely, we just weren't sure building a brand new house was something we wanted to do on our not so flexible time frame.  Anyway, we went back and talked to our SR (who is awesome by the way) which was probably the best decision ever.  We started off by looking at the Florence model.  He loved it, I thought it was just okay.  The layout just didn't make sense to me.  I mean, when you walk in the front door the basement door is directly in front of you! Everyone would think it's a coat closet and it made the entry way super small. Still a beautiful house, just not what I had in mind.  Since he was so excited about it we priced all of the upgrades we would want....then I asked to do the same with the Palermo.  We found that we wanted to do less to the exterior of the Palermo and it ended up being almost exactly the same price! By now we were both ridiculously excited. Our SR took us into a Palermo that had just been finished (before the owners moved in!) and we were in love.  I literally ran like a five year old across the living room (and fireplace!) into the adjoining home office (what?!).  Next we drove around the neighborhood to choose a lot.  We chose a premium lot - premium because it has a line of full grown privacy trees in the back, blocking it from the house behind it.  Our SR even waved the fee for us! We were sold.

The whole drive home we designed that house, picked colors and figured out how to spread our furniture into a house that could easily accommodate a family of six (maybe even more if rooms were shared).

Lessons learned:
1. Always check out the floor plan in the next price bracket
2. Ask a million questions, even if you think it's unlikely you'll hear "yes"

That's all for now
